Hostage

It’s the book everyone is buzzing about at the moment – and I can assure you that it’s worth it. Clare Mackintosh is a master of the twist and she doesn’t let up in Hostage, whose premise is already fraught enough – our protagonist, Mina, is a flight attendant with a tricky home life who finds herself in a tense hostage situation on an inaugural non-stop flight from London to Sydney, having to make a terrible choice…

Clare never fails to bring brilliant writing, fully formed characters and gripping plots to her books and each one is a masterclass – as Richard and Judy agree, having picked most of her books for their reading group so far. In Hostage, she ramps up the tension further with the filmic plot, but maintains the domestic details impressively. You will speed through it and it’ll be entirely worth the ride!
