Whisper Network

Oh, where to start with why I loved Whisper Network so much? It happened to be the very first book I read in 2019 and it set a very high reading bar for the rest of the year!

My favourite kind of books are those that manage simultaneously to say something about the world we inhabit now, and to spin a darn good yarn along the way. Chandler Baker’s incredible debut does precisely that. It explores the implications of the #MeToo movement (both the good and the bad) in a really nuanced way. It’s all about female empowerment and the wonderful characters at its heart was one of the things I loved most about it. But it also looks at how dangerous idle gossip can be, and how much we are all, rightly or wrongly, at the mercy of our reputations. And yet, despite having so much important to say, it zips along like there’s no tomorrow. My copy is now completely dog-eared because I literally couldn’t put it down at points and therefore it came everywhere with me – the bus, the bath, the breakfast table. Honestly, I really can’t recommend this one enough.
